Rep Simpson's Response To CTAI's Request for Support22-Sep-2011
Although the transportation bill was extended for 6 months, congress still needs to appropriate 2012 funding levels and the House of Representatives has proposed a cut of more than one-third of federal funding for public transportation. Contact Representative Simpson and other Idaho delegates to request their support for a continuation of funding levels, or lesser cuts than some might propose. Thank you for contacting me regarding funding for highways and other transportation infrastructure. I appreciate hearing from you and having the opportunity to respond.
Funding for highways is some of the most important money appropriated on the federal level. Idaho’s economy depends on an efficient and affordable transportation system to move people and products across the country, and the Highway Trust Fund, which is funded by user fees, provides for economic development, job creation, and safety improvements on our Federal Highway System.
I strongly support efforts to improve the transportation infrastructure in Idaho. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am committed to seeing that important transportation projects throughout Idaho receive adequate funding. You can be confident that I will continue to work to jump-start important highway projects in Idaho that have been delayed and will support a healthy American transportation system.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me about this issue.
