Dump the Pump.  Save Money.  Ride Transit.

(Boise, Idaho)  With the return of high gas prices, the Community Transportation Association of Idaho (CTAI) announced today it is partnering with Idaho’s public transportation systems, and systems nationwide to participate in the seventh annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 21.  The slogan of this year’s National Dump the Pump Day is “Dump the Pump.  Save Money. RideTransit.”

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA),National Dump the Pump Day encourages people to ride public transportation, instead of driving a car,and save money. Started in June 2006, this national day emphasizes public transportation as a great travel option that helps people save money. In Idaho, we also highlight the benefits of vanpooling and ridesharing for communities with no access to transit (visit for more information).

Since gas prices are reaching $4, saving money is on everyone’s minds and public transportation, vanpooling, ridesharing, and biking are the quickest ways to beat high gas prices. According to the latest APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-person household can save on average more than $10,000 annually by downsizing to one car.

National Dump the Pump Day also provides an opportunity for Idahoans without access to transit to consider vanpooling or ridesharing as a cost-savings alternative to driving alone every day. Idaho's vanpool programs are provided by Ada County Highway Districts’ Commuteride, City of Moscow, Mountain Rides Transportation Authority, and Bannock Transportation Planning Organization's RIDE-LINK. These programs save money for thousands of riders each day, while removing thousands of vehicles off Idaho's roads. In addition, an easy-to- use, free, ride matching website helps connect those interested carpooling.

CTAI is proud to partner with and recognize Idaho’s public transportation systems for the role they play in safely transporting Idahoans while saving them money on the more than 6.2 million one way trips provided in 2011. This is 2.4 million more one way trips than provided in 2010.
