SEVENTH ANNUAL NATIONAL DUMP THE PUMP DAY TO BE HELD ON JUNE 21 –
Boise Mayor Bieter to Issue Proclamation

(Boise, Idaho)  With the return of high gas prices, Community Transportation Association of Idaho (CTAI) announced today that it will join efforts with the City of Boise, Treasure Valley Transit (TVT), and Valley Ride locally, along with many other public transportation systems in Idaho, and systems nationwide in support of the seventh annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 21. Mayor Bieter will issue a proclamation for the City of Boise on June 21 at 9am at City Hall Plaza.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the 2012 National Dump the Pump Day is a day that encourages people to ride public transportation and save money.  The slogan of this year’s National Dump the Pump Day is “Dump the Pump.  Save Money.  Ride Transit.”

National Dump the Pump Day also provides an opportunity for Idahoans without access to transit to consider vanpooling or ridesharing as a cost-savings alternative to driving alone every day.

  • Ada County Highway Districts’ Commuteride.com program, one of the first vanpool programs in the US, saves money for thousands of riders, with nearly 100 routes in the Treasure Valley.
  • IdahoRideShare.org an easy-to- use, free, ride matching website helps connect those interested carpooling. Currently, over 3,500 commuters from the Boise-metropolitan area use the system.

With gas prices exceeding $4 this year, saving money is on everyone’s minds and public transportation is the quickest way to beat high gas prices.  According to the latest APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-person household can save an average of more than $10,000 annually by downsizing to one car. In the area, more than 1.5 million one-way trips were reported by TVT and Valley Ride, saving area residents’ money and taking thousands of vehicles off our roads.
